Kyriakos Mitsotakis meets Lithuanian President to discuss defense and borders
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda at the Maximos Mansion to discuss defense, sovereignty, and border security. Mitsotakis emphasized that defending the sovereignty of EU and NATO members, particularly frontline states like Greece and Lithuania, is a shared responsibility.
During the meeting, Mitsotakis expressed solidarity with Lithuania regarding recent hybrid attacks, noting that unauthorized crossings, cyberattacks, and sabotage are issues affecting all of Europe and require a coordinated response. He highlighted the need to strengthen both defense and resilience to protect European freedom and prosperity.
Addressing migration, the Prime Minister stated that frontline nations are well-aware of the weaponization of migratory flows. He called for the protection of borders through the implementation of the new Migration and Asylum Pact. Mitsotakis also noted his satisfaction with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s support for Greece’s proposal to establish an emergency mechanism to handle irregular migration flows and pressure.
