Kyriakos Mitsotakis rules out early elections, plans spring 2027 vote

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that the government will not call early parliamentary elections in autumn 2026. The next national election is scheduled for the end of the current term, most likely in late April 2027.

The decision comes after months of speculation fueled by comments from commentator Maximos and internal party debate about the risk of a weak performance in the upcoming European Parliament elections, where New Democracy is projected to receive roughly 28‑31% of the vote. Mitsotakis stressed that the administration will concentrate on completing its policy agenda and avoid a premature vote that could jeopardise its ability to form a stable coalition government.
