Kyriakos Mitsotakis outlines infrastructure push, tax changes and 2027 election plan

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis presented a series of government initiatives aimed at strengthening Greece’s economy and preparing for the next electoral cycle. He highlighted major infrastructure projects, including the Skaramanga triple junction, the Rovies‑Ilia road in northern Euboea, upgrades to the OAKA sports centre and new marine parks in the Aegean and Ionian seas, describing them as “projects that count more than words.”

Mitsotakis also announced reforms for the self‑employed and small‑to‑medium enterprises, proposing adjustments to the income‑tax assessment (tekmar) and a phased removal of the business licence fee. A pension‑support package was discussed, with scenarios ranging from a €400 monthly supplement to a full‑rate national pension topping up to €447 per month.

In education, the government pledged €160 million for university renovations and the rollout of digital examinations using tablets. The professional‑insurance system was targeted for overhaul, with new open funds and tax credits to raise Greece’s OECD ranking.

Politically, Mitsotakis confirmed that parliamentary elections will be held in the spring of 2027 and withdrew a proposal for a strict incompatibility rule between ministers and MPs after internal party opposition. He also defended the handling of the OPEKEPE investigation, asserting that the European Prosecutor’s Office had not performed its duties adequately.
