ELPEN inaugurates Athens LifeTech Park in Spata

ELPEN has inaugurated the Athens LifeTech Park (ALTP) in Spata, Attica, marking the first integrated biotechnology park in Southeast Europe. The project represents an €80 million investment, consisting of €72 million from ELPEN's own funds and €8 million in state investment incentives.

The facility spans 15 acres and is designed to foster a life sciences ecosystem through three main pillars: a biotech incubator for early-stage startups, preclinical and clinical Contract Research Organization (CRO) services, and an education and conference center. The park aims to bridge the gap between research and entrepreneurship, providing much-needed infrastructure for scientists and startups to develop and commercialize new products.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the inauguration, noting that total investments in the Greek pharmaceutical industry now exceed €1 billion. He described the park as a “bridge” between Greece and its scientific diaspora, intended to combat brain drain by creating high-value professional opportunities for young researchers within the country. The project is part of ELPEN’s broader €380 million investment program scheduled through 2030.
