Kyriakos Pierrakakis Calls for Eurogroup Shift to Technology and AI
Greek finance minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis urged the Eurogroup to move beyond a purely accounting focus and adopt a technology‑driven strategy. Speaking at the Les Rencontres Économiques forum in Aix‑en‑Provence, he argued that artificial intelligence, digital transition and innovation should become central to EU economic policy to create new value and strengthen European competitiveness against the United States and China.
Pierrakakis proposed establishing a dedicated Eurogroup working group on AI, tech innovation and technological sovereignty, and integrating technology considerations into the EU’s multi‑annual fiscal framework, the digital euro and crypto policy. He highlighted the need for an “European champion” mindset to address demographic, fiscal and structural challenges facing Germany, France, Italy and the broader Union.
