Kyriakos Pierrakakis defines fiscal credibility as a strategic resource
During an Atlantic Council discussion in Bangkok held alongside the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, Greek Minister of National Economy and Finance and Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis emphasized that fiscal credibility serves as a strategic national resource.
Pierrakakis argued that maintaining orderly public finances is essential for attracting investment and boosting productivity. He noted that the era of cheap and abundant capital has ended, with geopolitical challenges, energy pressures, and rising demand for Artificial Intelligence investments contributing to higher bond yields.
He presented Greek economic forecasts including a 2.3% growth rate for 2027 and a primary surplus exceeding 3%, suggesting that growth momentum can be sustained following the completion of the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
