Kyriakos Pierrakakis stresses importance of trust in Greek capital markets

Greek Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis emphasized the critical role of trust in the functioning of capital markets during his address at the Hellenic Capital Market Commission’s 2026 Anniversary Symposium. Marking 35 years since the Commission's founding in 1991, Pierrakakis stated, “Without trust, there is no capital market.”

He highlighted that a reliable institutional framework is a prerequisite for economic growth, as a strong capital market serves as a vital mechanism for directing savings into real investments. This process reduces business reliance on bank lending and helps attract foreign capital to enhance national competitiveness.

The Minister also stressed the importance of protecting small savers and investors from market manipulation and abusive practices. He noted that the Commission has navigated various economic cycles, from periods of high growth to the deep crisis following 2010, and is now focused on supporting the country's return to stability and growth.
