Kyriakos Velopoulos criticizes Greek government economy and energy policies
Kyriakos Velopoulos, leader of the Greek Solution party, has launched a sharp critique against Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the current government regarding the Greek economy and energy policies.
Addressing recent government celebrations over economic upgrades, Velopoulos accused the administration of presenting a distorted reality. He characterized the government as a ‘Munchausen government’ based on falsehoods, arguing that the perceived strength in the markets is a result of limited bond offerings and high demand rather than fundamental health. He noted that much of Greece's debt originates from European institutions like the ESM, EFSF, and the Greek Loan Facility, rather than new market activity.
Velopoulos further alleged that approximately 65 billion euros in borrowing comes from domestic public sector entities, such as EFKA and local government organizations, which he described as ‘stolen money from the Greeks.’
On energy matters, the party leader blamed the government for skyrocketing costs, citing the closure of lignite plants and sanctions against Russia as primary drivers. He also challenged the administration's claims regarding EU restrictions, asserting that no European Union permission is required to reduce the Special Consumption Tax to alleviate the financial burden on citizens.
