Kyrie Irving discusses career longevity and NBA changes

Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving has addressed his future in the NBA, stating that his decision to continue playing depends on his physical health and personal passion rather than financial considerations. Following a return to competition during the NBA China Games, the 34-year-old emphasized that he intends to play as long as he can maintain high performance levels and physical well-being.

Irving noted that the modern NBA environment has changed significantly since he entered the league in 2011. He expressed concerns regarding the increased prevalence of social media influence and gambling culture, suggesting the game has become ‘more robotic’ and ‘less human.’ While he enjoys the competition, he questioned whether he enjoys the surrounding ‘hoopla.’

Unlike peers such as LeBron James or Stephen Curry, Irving does not aim to match their extreme longevity. He stated that he does not compare his career duration to others, focusing instead on his own purpose and the amount of love he still has for the game.
