Kythira students face teacher shortages in exam subjects
Students in Kythira are facing a critical shortage of teachers for subjects included in the Panhellenic exams. According to an announcement by ELME Piraeus, senior high school students (3rd grade Lyceum) have completed a full month of the school year without receiving any instruction in key subjects due to vacancies.
At the General Lyceum of Kythira, specific shortages include 31 hours of Mathematics, 14 hours of Chemistry, and 10 hours of Economics. The situation also affects the local Gymnasium, where teaching gaps exceed 40 hours in subjects such as Physical Education, Informatics, and Chemistry.
ELME Piraeus has criticized the Ministry of Education and the government, noting that despite the known needs, no substitute teachers were assigned to the 3rd Piraeus district following the second phase of hiring. The organization is calling for a special invitation for substitute teachers to be issued for Kythira to immediately cover these educational gaps.
