Kyung Hee University Hospital opens Space Medicine Center
Kyung Hee University Hospital has launched a Space Medicine Center to develop future medical technologies by utilizing space environments. The center aims to conduct convergence research across medicine, dentistry, and Korean medicine to address the effects of microgravity and cosmic radiation on the human body.
Research focuses include studying bone density loss, muscle atrophy, and cardiovascular decline to develop treatments for age-related and chronic diseases on Earth. The center also plans to utilize microgravity environments for protein crystal research to advance drug development.
To expand its global research capabilities, the hospital intends to pursue international collaborations with institutions such as NASA, Baylor University, and the Mayo Clinic. The center will also strengthen R&D partnerships with domestic medical industries to facilitate “Space-to-Earth” translational research, applying space-based findings to terrestrial clinical settings.
