Kyushu karate championship and Okinawa long-distance meet showcase regional Japanese athletics

The 67th All Kyushu Student Karate Championship was staged on May 17, 2026 at Kamizaki Chuo Park Gymnasium. Organized by the All Kyushu Student Karate Federation, the event featured kata and kumite contests across multiple weight classes. Notable winners included Shingo Todaka (Okinawa International University) in men's kata, Koharu Sato (Kyushu Sangyo University) in women's kata, and Keita Kurihara (Fukuoka University) in the men’s 65 kg kumite.

On June 20, 2026, the Okinawa Track and Field Association hosted its first "Challenge Long‑Distance Record Meeting" at the prefectural General Sports Park track. The meet attracted 89 participants ranging from middle‑school runners to adult athletes. Designed to broaden participation and nurture talent, the event links middle‑school athletes with high‑school, university and corporate teams to strengthen long‑distance running development in Okinawa.
