Kızılırmak Delta hosts rare bird sightings during photography camp
Photographers from across Turkey participated in the Autumn Nature Observation Camp held at the Kızılırmak Delta Bird Sanctuary in Samsun. Organized by the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality and the Cemre Foundation, the event aimed to document rare and migratory bird species.
Participants successfully captured images of rare species such as the ‘çalıkuşu çıvgını’ (European Pied Flycatcher) and ‘akkaşlı çinte’ (a rare species), which are only sighted in Turkey every few years. Bird photographer Alper Tüydeş noted that the timing following recent rains provided an excellent opportunity for observation.
Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı highlighted the ecological importance of the delta, stating that the region hosts approximately 368 bird species and welcomes 16 million migratory birds annually. The area is currently on UNESCO’s tentative list for protection.
