L 289 bicycle path construction delayed in North Rhine-Westphalia

Construction of a long-awaited bicycle path on the L 289 state road between Kürten-Bechen and Herkenrath has faced further delays. Despite being a top priority for the Regional Council of the Cologne District for over 12 years, the state enterprise Straßen. NRW has postponed the project.

Previously, it was announced that construction would begin in the second quarter of 2026 following a tender process. However, recent updates from the regional transport committee indicate that the tender is still pending, pushing the earliest possible start date to 2027. Additionally, plans have changed to exclude a section near Trotzenburger Weg from the new path construction.
