L. Murugan resigns as Union Minister to focus on Tamil Nadu BJP
L. Murugan, the Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, has resigned from his ministerial post and requested to relinquish his Rajya Sabha membership. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Murugan stated his intention to return to grassroots politics to strengthen the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu in preparation for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
Murugan, who rose from a humble background as the son of daily-wage labourers, expressed that serving in the Union Council of Ministers was the greatest honour of his life. He noted that his decision was inspired by the public enthusiasm he witnessed during recent visits to Tamil Nadu.
His resignation has fueled speculation regarding a potential Cabinet reshuffle within the Modi government. Meanwhile, Congress MP Jothimani Sennimalai criticized the move, alleging that the central government has consistently acted against the interests of Tamil Nadu’s language, culture, and economy.
