Lá Vem o Enem releases video lesson on memory and history

The Lá Vem o Enem educational project has released a new video lesson focused on distinguishing between the concepts of memory and history. Presented by history professor Rafael, the lesson addresses specific skills required for the Enem exam regarding how societies construct representations of the past.

Professor Rafael explains that while memory is often composed of unorganized images, recollections, and fragments, history requires formal investigation, source analysis, and specific methodologies to understand events. The lesson highlights that societal memories—constructed through monuments, paintings, museums, and public space names—are not neutral and are often shaped by specific interests.

Examples provided include the traditional depiction of Brazilian Independence involving Dom Pedro I at the Ipiranga River, which helped consolidate a specific vision of the event, and the naming of Praça XV in Rio de Janeiro. The lesson advises students to analyze who produced a representation, the historical context, and the underlying interests to better prepare for the exam.
