L214 protests at Carrefour in Dijon over animal slaughter rates

The animal rights association L214 held a demonstration at the Carrefour Toison d’Or hypermarket in Dijon on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Using a school-themed campaign titled ‘La rentrée pas classe de Carrefour’, volunteers invited customers to sign a giant replica of a school notebook to voice their demands.

The association is calling on the Carrefour group to commit to reducing the number of animals slaughtered for its supply chain by 50% by the year 2030. L214 specifically aims to decrease reliance on intensive farming practices. The group estimates that Carrefour currently procures approximately 100 million land animals annually, averaging over 330,000 animals per day, including poultry, pigs, and cattle.
