L3Harris opens Rhode Island facility for undersea training systems

L3Harris Technologies has opened a new 50,000-square-foot maritime production facility at ProvPort in Providence, Rhode Island. The $6 million investment is dedicated to the design, production, and delivery of advanced undersea training systems for the U.S. Navy and allied forces.

The facility aims to meet increasing demand for undersea training and readiness by providing the speed and scale required by customers. According to Nino DiCosmo, president of Maritime, Space and Mission Systems at L3Harris, the ProvPort location offers a strategic advantage due to its access to a highly skilled maritime workforce.

Local officials, including Senator Jack Reed, noted that the expansion strengthens Rhode Island’s role in the defense industrial base and the state’s Blue Economy. The company has maintained a presence in Rhode Island since 1991, previously operating a facility in Ashaway focused on undersea sensor systems and military sonar capabilities.
