La Araucanía agricultural initiatives promote sustainable farming
Agricultural development initiatives are advancing in the La Araucanía region of Chile. A seminar held in Puerto Saavedra, organized by Indap Araucanía and Consultora Ingenias, focused on water resource innovation and management. The event provided potato producers with access to technical training and irrigation financing options through the National Irrigation Commission (CNR).
As part of this effort, the ‘Papa Huella Cero’ project, led by Inia, was introduced. This initiative aims to implement agroecological transition protocols to reduce the use of agrochemicals, targeting 200 farmers across seven communes through digital tools and demonstration sites.
In the apiculture sector, Corfo and the Universidad Católica de Temuco have concluded a five-month diploma program in sustainable apiculture production. Twenty-two professionals were certified in areas including sanitation, nutrition, and genetics. These specialists are expected to transfer their expertise to more than 1,800 apicultural producers throughout the region.
