La Araucanía establishes commission to expand prison education
A Regional Mixed Education Commission has been officially established in La Araucanía, Chile, to expand educational access for incarcerated individuals. This intersectoral body brings together the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Justice and Human Rights, the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Education, and Gendarmería de Chile.
The commission aims to coordinate efforts to ensure educational continuity and the leveling of basic and secondary education within penal units. By addressing the specific challenges of education in confinement, the initiative seeks to strengthen social reintegration processes and contribute to public security.
Stephanie Caminondo, the Regional Ministerial Secretary of Justice and Human Rights, stated that education is a fundamental tool for advancing reintegration and building a more just and inclusive society.
