La Araucanía truffle producers target international markets
Four black truffle producers from the La Araucanía region of Chile have joined forces through the ‘Red Mercado Trufa Negra’ project to export directly to international markets, aiming to bypass intermediaries.
Chilean black truffle production grew by 40% in 2024, reaching 6.3 tons, with projections to exceed 17 tons by 2030. The participating companies, located in Perquenco, Villarrica, Lautaro, and Gorbea, accounted for 11% of national production last year. The initiative, funded by Corfo, seeks to position Chilean truffles in high-end markets in Europe and the United States by leveraging the counter-seasonality of the Southern Hemisphere.
The project, scheduled for execution between 2026 and 2027, will focus on commercial training, market intelligence, and international promotion to address gaps in market knowledge and collective branding.
