La Bañeza fire station project stalled by technical disputes
The construction of a new provincial fire station in La Bañeza remains stalled due to a dispute between the local City Council and the Diputación de León. The Diputación has halted the processing of the project, claiming the land ceded by the municipality lacks the necessary technical validation to ensure its suitability.
Provincial technicians have raised concerns regarding water risks and the potential impact on the Vía Clunia Asturica archaeological site. They argue that the municipality's response lacks sufficient technical reports, relying instead on a signed letter from the mayor.
The City Council maintains that the plot meets all requirements and that the necessary technical, legal, and sectoral reports—including those from the Duero Hydrographic Confederation and the Territorial Commission of Cultural Heritage—have been provided. The local government has called on the Diputación to unblock the project, noting that the province had previously selected this specific site from several alternatives.
