La Bataille de Gaulle film reaches 5.6 million viewers
The historical diptych ‘La Bataille de Gaulle’, directed by Antonin Baudry, has achieved unexpected commercial success in France, surpassing 5.6 million spectators as of early September. Despite a slow start with only 383,000 admissions in its first week, word-of-mouth momentum and the early release of the second installment, ‘La Bataille de Gaulle: J’écris ton nom’, propelled the films to significant box office numbers.
The first film, ‘La Bataille de Gaulle: L’Âge de fer’, follows General de Gaulle’s resistance efforts from London following the 1940 armistice. Due to its popularity, the National Centre for Cinema (CNC) has included it as one of five shortlisted films to represent France at the 2027 Oscars for Best International Feature Film. Other shortlisted titles include ‘Minotaure’, ‘L’Inconnue’, ‘La Gradiva’, and ‘Le Corset’.
