La Bataille de Gaulle reaches 5 million cinema admissions

The French war epic “La Bataille de Gaulle” has surpassed 5 million cinema admissions in France, according to producer and distributor Pathé. The achievement comes nearly three months after the release of the first installment.

The two-part film, directed by Antonin Baudry, consists of “L’Age de fer,” which has recorded over 2.7 million admissions since June 5, and “J’ecris ton nom,” which has seen more than 2.2 million admissions since June 26. Despite being the highest-budget French film of the year, the production saw a modest start, initially placing second at the box office behind the American comedy “Scary Movie.”

Strong word-of-mouth helped the films maintain stable attendance against competition from American blockbusters. The series has also received high audience ratings on the review site Allociné, with the first film holding a 4.4/5 and the second a 4.5/5.
