La Boisserie: Dispute over Charles de Gaulle's home sparks acquisition offers

The future of La Boisserie, the historic residence of General Charles de Gaulle in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, is uncertain due to a family inheritance dispute. The property, which attracts 40,000 visitors annually, is currently divided among the General's grandsons: Pierre de Gaulle holds a 50% stake, while his brothers Yves and Jean each hold 25%.

Local authorities are seeking to secure the site for public access. Nicolas Lacroix, president of the Haute-Marne Department, has proposed that the property be transitioned to public management, either under the State or the Department. The Department has already submitted an acquisition offer of 1.5 million euros to the family.

While the State has expressed interest in acquiring the home, the family has reportedly shown more openness to the Department than to the central government. In an effort to keep the estate within the family, Pierre de Gaulle has launched an online crowdfunding campaign to fund a potential buyout.
