La bola negra becomes highest-grossing Spanish film of 2026

The film ‘La bola negra’, directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi (known as Los Javis), has become the highest-grossing Spanish film of 2026. After four weeks in theaters, it has surpassed ‘Torrente presidente’ to reach over 28.6 million euros in revenue. This achievement places it as the fourth highest-grossing Spanish production in history.

In the United States, the film has seen a successful limited release through Netflix in Los Angeles and New York. It recorded approximately 277,500 dollars in its opening weekend, marking the second-highest per-screen average for a non-English language film on the platform. A wider release across approximately 300 theaters is expected in November.

The drama, which explores themes related to Federico García Lorca, is positioned as a strong contender for the 2027 Oscars. The film's soundtrack, featuring 24 tracks including contributions from Penélope Cruz and Guitarricadelafuente, has also been released digitally.
