La bola negra emerges as Oscar contender and box office hit

The Spanish film ‘La bola negra’, directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi (known as ‘the Javis’), has emerged as a significant cinematic phenomenon. Following its success at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won Best Director, the film has secured audience awards at both the San Sebastián and Toronto film festivals.

As the film enters the race for the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film, it has surpassed two million viewers. While the production features established names like Guitarricadelafuente and Miguel Bernardeau, it has also provided major exposure for lesser-known actors. Among them is Milo Quifes, a former biology student with no prior acting experience, who secured a lead role through the casting process.
