La Caixa Foundation funds biomedical research in Spain and Portugal
The La Caixa Foundation has allocated 32.4 million euros to fund 80 biomedical research and innovation projects across Spain and Portugal. These initiatives aim to advance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various diseases while improving healthcare delivery.
The selected projects cover diverse medical challenges, including enhancing immune cell delivery to tumors, developing drugs to cross the blood-brain barrier, improving neonatal diagnosis, preventing infections, and addressing mental health and advanced Alzheimer’s. Research areas include oncology, neuroscience, cardiovascular diseases, and metabolic disorders, utilizing biology, genomics, bioengineering, and data analysis.
Through the ninth edition of its Health Research Call, 32 projects were selected from 800 proposals, with 23 based in Spain and nine in Portugal. Additionally, the CaixaImpulse Health Innovation Call, launched alongside Criteria Bio Ventures, selected 30 projects focused on developing therapies, diagnostic tests, and medical devices.
