La Calera Fire Department secures funding from Japanese Embassy
The La Calera Fire Department (CBLC) has signed a donation agreement with the Embassy of Japan through the 2026 Human Security Community Project Assistance (APC) program. This international cooperation initiative will provide funds for the purchase of a new water tanker truck.
The new vehicle is intended to replace the Z-1 unit, a 1998 model that was decommissioned due to critical electrical failures and corrosion. The acquisition is considered vital for addressing the water scarcity crisis currently affecting La Calera and will enhance firefighting capabilities in the local area and neighboring communes.
CBLC Superintendent Cristian Omar Fernández noted that the selection process involved five stages, including an embassy visit to La Calera to review the project. The agreement was formalized during a visit to the Japanese Embassy by a CBLC delegation.
