Lía Castro seeks MORENA municipal coordination in Bahía de Banderas
Lía Castro Díaz de León, a businesswoman and former mayor of Bahía de Banderas, has announced her intention to seek the municipal coordination of the MORENA party. As part of this move, she is temporarily stepping down from her position as president of the James McKenney Foundation, a role that will be assumed by her mother, María Imelda Díaz de León.
Castro Díaz de León stated she will register online this Friday, October 16, as part of the internal process to define candidates for the 2027 elections. She confirmed she possesses the necessary documentation, including a certificate of no disqualification from the Superior Audit Office of the State of Nayarit (ASEN) and a clean criminal record from the State Prosecutor's Office.
Addressing past allegations regarding the disappearance of funds during her previous administration, she clarified that she currently faces no legal proceedings. She emphasized that her goal is to secure the party coordination rather than accepting a consolation prize, noting that the position would allow her to better manage resources and social programs for the municipality.
