La Causa R demands tax relief for Venezuelan businesses amid power outages

The Venezuelan political party La Causa R has called for a reduction and flexibilization of taxes for businesses and merchants facing frequent electricity shortages. The party stated that small entrepreneurs and the productive sector are being forced to absorb high additional operating costs for fuel, maintenance, and private infrastructure to remain operational.

La Causa R is requesting tax incentives, temporary exemptions, and a “tax truce” to prevent sanctions or closures by tax authorities while the energy emergency persists. The party argued that protecting the productive sector is essential to prevent mass job losses and shortages of essential goods.

In the state of Zulia, former Maracaibo mayor Rafael Ramírez Colina has requested intervention from the Ombudsman, Eglée González, following reports of blackouts lasting up to eight hours. While the government attributes the power failures to foreign sanctions, opposition sectors and experts point to corruption and a lack of infrastructure maintenance.
