La Ceiba celebrates 149 years as a municipality

La Ceiba, Honduras, is celebrating its 149th anniversary as a municipality. The city, which gained municipal status on August 23, 1877, under the government of President Marco Aurelio Soto, is marking the occasion with a diverse program of cultural, sporting, and religious activities.

Scheduled events include an aero show, educational parades, a thanksgiving mass, and a philharmonic concert. The celebrations also feature the 'La Ceiba de Oro' awards, the coronation of Miss Anniversary 2026 Carla Ramírez and Tourism Queen Shirley James, and a chess tournament organized by the local chess league.
