La Ceiba: Cruise line employee shot dead on beach

Kimberly Dayana Murillo Almendárez, a 28-year-old cruise line employee, was fatally shot in the early hours of Sunday, September 6, in La Ceiba, Honduras. The incident occurred around 3:00 to 4:30 a.m. at the Playa de Los Maestros sector, near the Paseo de los Ceibeños parking area.

Preliminary reports indicate that Murillo was sitting with a friend when a man on a motorcycle approached. The assailant allegedly aimed a firearm at her, prompting Murillo to attempt to flee. Despite her efforts to escape, the attacker opened fire, striking her multiple times.

Murillo had recently returned to La Ceiba for a vacation before scheduled to return to her maritime duties with a cruise line the following week. Local authorities are currently investigating the circumstances and the motive behind the attack; no suspects have been officially identified or detained at this time.
