La Chorrera Council authorizes study for new cable car system
The La Chorrera Municipal Council has authorized Mayor Eloy Chong to explore the creation of a mixed municipal company to develop a cable car system. The project aims to modernize passenger transport and provide a connectivity alternative to the Panama Metro Line 3.
The preliminary plan for the first stage includes a 12-kilometer route featuring seven stations. This infrastructure is intended to bridge the gap between La Chorrera and the Ciudad del Futuro metro station located in the Arraiján district, as the immediate extension of Metro Line 3 to La Chorrera is not currently planned.
The legal framework for this initiative is based on the National Constitution and Law 106 of 1973, which grant municipalities the authority to provide public services, execute local works, and establish mixed companies for the exploitation of goods or services.
