La Ciotat attracts new residents with lower costs and Mediterranean lifestyle

La Ciotat is emerging as an attractive destination for a new generation of residents due to its lifestyle advantages and relative affordability. Located approximately 30 kilometers from Marseille, the city offers real estate prices nearly 40% lower than those in Marseille, making it a viable option for active professionals seeking space and sea access.

The city features a unique blend of traditional and modern industry, notably through its shipyard, the Bassin Industriel de Construction (BIC), which hosts both local fishing boats and international superyachts. Residents benefit from direct access to the Calanques de Figuerolles and a high number of sunny days per year.

Regarding safety, La Ciotat maintains an intermediate crime profile within the Bouches-du-Rhône department. While it experiences opportunistic crime such as theft and burglary, its levels of physical violence are lower than those in larger neighboring cities like Aubagne. When compared to the residential town of Cassis, La Ciotat shows higher rates of physical violence, though burglary rates remain within national averages.
