La Cocha baby abandonment triggers emergency child protection

During the San Ignacio festival in La Cocha, a seven‑month‑old baby was found abandoned on the event grounds. Police secured the child and, after a family member arrived, the case was handed to the provincial justice system.

The Dirección de Niñez, Adolescencia y Familia (DINAyF) launched an emergency operation. The abandoned infant and a two‑year‑old sibling were transferred to Casa Cuna in San Miguel de Tucumán, where they will remain for up to 72 hours while authorities assess possible family care. The mother, identified as having nine children, left the other siblings in the care of relatives under judicial and protective‑service supervision. The investigation and protective measures continue under court oversight.
