La Esperanza 50th Pilgrimage Moves to Evening to Avoid Heat
The traditional Romería of La Esperanza in El Rosario, Tenerife, celebrates its 50th anniversary on Sunday, 2 August. For the first time the event will be held in the evening, with the mass beginning at 6 p.m. and the procession departing at 7 p.m., a change made to protect participants and animals from the ongoing heatwave.
Thousands of attendees and about thirty floats are expected. Live music will be provided by the bands Wamampy and Acapulco from 9 p.m., and the usual Saturday fireworks display has been cancelled and replaced by an alternative show on the council steps. Earlier festivities on Saturday, 1 August, include the IV Sortija de Caballos at 10 a.m. and the transfer of the pendón at 7 p.m., featuring soloist Miriam Cruz singing the “Ave María.” The entire celebration will be broadcast live by Televisión Canaria across the Canary Islands.
