La Fragua waterfall transforms into ice in Alto Neuquén

The La Fragua waterfall in Alto Neuquén, located four kilometers from Manzano Amargo, has undergone a dramatic transformation due to freezing temperatures. The 40-meter drop is currently surrounded by snow, frost, and significant ice formations following recent weather patterns where temperatures reached between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius below zero.

While large sections of the waterfall have frozen, the water continues to flow through the ice formations, creating a landscape of contrasting elements. The site is accessible via a short 300-meter trail from the La Fragua sector, which can be reached by taking a detour from Provincial Route 43 to Provincial Route 54. Local amenities include parking, outdoor tables, restrooms, and a gastronomic stop that operates during the high season from November to May.
