La Gomera hosts 65th Jornadas Colombinas focusing on democracy

The 65th edition of the Jornadas Colombinas is being held in La Gomera, marking the historical significance of the island as a departure point for voyages between the Old and New Worlds 534 years ago.

During the institutional act, Casimiro Curbelo, president of the Cabildo of La Gomera, addressed the importance of democracy under the theme ‘Following the footsteps of history. The value of democracy.’ Curbelo emphasized that modern challenges, such as war, disinformation, and political polarization, require a collective effort to strengthen democratic institutions, respect, and justice.
