La Gomera implements forest fire prevention drills

The Cabildo of La Gomera is conducting ongoing drills and coordination exercises to strengthen the island's preparedness for forest fires. These activities focus on high-risk areas, specifically mid-altitude zones and mountain summits, where difficult terrain and dense vegetation can complicate emergency interventions.

Casimiro Curbelo, president of the Cabildo, stated that these measures are part of a permanent prevention strategy designed to protect the population, territory, and natural heritage against increasing fire risks. Héctor Cabrera, the island's Environment Counselor, emphasized that preparation is a year-round effort involving training and coordination to improve response efficacy during emergencies.
