La Guaira earthquake survivor suffers leg amputation

Adrián Troncoso, a 47-year-old man, suffered a leg amputation following a double earthquake that struck La Guaira, Venezuela, on June 24.

While performing repairs at his sister-in-law's home, Troncoso became trapped under the debris of a collapsing three-story building. During the ordeal, he attempted to locate his 16-year-old son, who was also trapped under the rubble. After realizing his right foot was pinned and severely injured, Troncoso used a piece of a lumbar belt to fashion a makeshift tourniquet to control the bleeding.

Despite the trauma and significant blood loss, he managed to move from the debris to a staircase to call for help. The injury eventually required medical professionals to amputate his leg below the knee.
