La Guaira man drowns at restricted Playa Los Cocos
Jean Carlos Galicia, a 51-year-old resident of Caracas, died by drowning at Playa Los Cocos in the Caraballeda parish of La Guaira state. The incident occurred despite active restrictions prohibiting swimming in the area.
Galicia was in the region performing reconstruction work following a double earthquake on June 24. Local workers and authorities had reportedly warned of the beach closures and the dangers of the sea in that specific zone. Although security forces and rescue teams responded to the emergency, they found Galicia without vital signs.
Local experts, including experienced surfers, have noted that Playa Los Cocos is extremely dangerous and unsuitable for swimmers, being better suited only for experienced surfers. Authorities have reiterated calls for the public to respect all maritime restrictions and safety signage to prevent further fatalities.
