Venezuela announces U.S. oil pact and resumes airport operations

Venezuela is undergoing significant economic and infrastructural shifts following devastating earthquakes in June. The Venezuelan military leadership has announced its full support for a strategic energy agreement with the United States. This 25-year pact, which has been approved by the Venezuelan Parliament, grants the U.S. control over more than 20% of the country's crude oil reserves. Officials state the agreement is a move toward economic cooperation and peace rather than subordination, aiming to increase production by 1.5 million barrels per day and generate millions of jobs.

In terms of infrastructure, the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía has partially resumed commercial operations. Due to severe damage to the main terminals caused by the seismic events, flights are currently utilizing temporary structures in the airport parking lot. Authorities expect to initially recover 25% of pre-earthquake operations, with plans to reach 60% capacity by late 2026 or early 2027. Additionally, the Seniat is overseeing the progressive reactivation of customs and port operations in La Guaira to restore maritime trade flows.
