La Guaira Port restores full operations following seismic damage

The Port of La Guaira has fully restored its cargo, unloading, and vessel reception operations nearly two months after being impacted by seismic activity on June 24. Rusvel Gutiérrez, president of the Chamber of Merchants, Industrialists, and Customs Agents of La Guaira, confirmed that the port infrastructure is now 100% operational to meet sector demand.

Despite the full reopening of the docks, the customs sector faces a significant slowdown. Currently, only 100 out of the 1,200 registered customs agents in the region are active, representing just 8.3% of the total workforce. This reduction indicates a substantial decline in the volume of imports and exports moving through the country’s primary maritime infrastructure.

To support regional logistics, commercial goods dispatch and reception are also being handled regularly through the Maiquetía International Airport.
