Dominican Republic swears in 43 committees to prevent healthcare infections

The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Public Health (MSP), in coordination with the National Health Service (SNS), has sworn in 43 committees dedicated to the Prevention and Control of Healthcare-Associated Infections (IAAS). These committees will operate within both public and private medical facilities across the National District and various provinces.

Health Minister Víctor Atallah stated that the initiative aims to strengthen institutional culture through prevention and constant surveillance to reduce morbidity and mortality rates linked to infections acquired during medical care. The committees, which have received accreditation after meeting technical standards, are intended to serve as leadership structures to ensure patient safety and continuous improvement in healthcare services.

Julio Landrón, executive director of the SNS, emphasized that the institution will provide continuous follow-up to ensure these committees adhere to both national and international protocols for infection control.
