La Guaira shows lasting earthquake damage in aerial footage

The devastating impact of the earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 remains visible in La Guaira. Venezuelan actress María Alexandra Ramírez De Sousa shared aerial footage captured while landing at Maiquetía International Airport, showing the widespread destruction caused by the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 tremors.

Official reports indicate that the disaster resulted in more than 6,500 deaths as of August 17. The seismic activity caused significant structural collapses, leaving thousands homeless. Of more than 59,000 homes evaluated, approximately 10,696 were classified as high-risk.

The Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía also sustained damage, leading to a closure of over two months. The facility only partially resumed operations on September 1, utilizing temporary terminals while recovery efforts continue.
