La Guajira concludes III Patient Safety Symposium

The Government of La Guajira, through its Departmental Health Secretariat, concluded the III Patient Safety Symposium held on October 15 and 16 at the Riohacha Cultural Center. Supported by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the event brought together public and private health providers, health insurance entities (EAPB), and medical professionals.

The symposium focused on “Safe care throughout life: a commitment to people living with non-communicable diseases.” Academic sessions addressed critical topics including cardiovascular risk, diabetes, safe pediatric care, mental health, maternal care, and the management of renal and oncological patients. Training also covered psychological first aid and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

This initiative continues a commitment established in 2024 by Governor Jairo Aguilar Deluque and health providers through the agreement “A pact for safety, a commitment to life,” aimed at reducing medical risks and improving the continuous quality of healthcare services in the territory.
