La Hermida gorge and Torío hanging bridge attract tourists in Spain

The La Hermida gorge in western Cantabria, a 21‑km long canyon carved by the Deva River, is promoted as Spain’s longest gorge and a major natural corridor to the Liébana valley. The N‑621 road runs through the dramatic limestone walls, offering numerous viewpoints, historic sites, thermal springs and adventure activities that encourage visitors to stop and explore rather than merely pass through.

In the province of León, the wooden La Flecha de Torío hanging bridge spans the Torío River about 20 km north of the city. Opened in 2010 alongside a commemorative fountain for the Kingdom of León’s 1,100‑year anniversary, the bridge links local villages, is used by residents, hikers and shepherds, and provides striking river‑valley views, although authorities have noted the need for maintenance and safety upgrades.
