LA Jazz Festival postponed to 2027 due to unexpected costs

The inaugural LA Jazz Festival has been postponed until 2027 following a sudden cancellation just hours before its scheduled opening on August 7. Festival founder and CEO Martin Ludlow attributed the decision to “significant, unanticipated last-minute public safety and municipal costs” related to the permitting of the On The Beach Festival.

The festival was set to feature high-profile performers including John Legend, Janelle Monáe, and George Clinton, with events planned for Leimert Park and Dockweiler Beach. Organizers have pledged to issue full refunds to all ticket holders within 30 days.

The abrupt cancellation has drawn criticism from participating artists. Torrence Brannon-Reese, leader of the Uptown New Orleans Brass Band, expressed deep disappointment regarding the manner in which the cancellation was handled, stating it showed a lack of respect for the musicians and the community.
