La Laguna and Miranda municipalities boost waste collection

The municipality of La Laguna reported a 15.8% rise in light‑weight container collection and a 16.8% rise in paper‑cardboard collection during the first four months of 2026, reaching 806,040 kg and 1,198,270 kg respectively. Councilor Fran Hernández linked the improvement to growing resident participation and said the figures helped the town win the national "Escoba de Oro" award for urban cleanliness and waste management.

In Miranda, mayor Henry Hernández announced an expansion of solid‑waste services through a partnership with IMAUD and the state firm Serdefalca. The fleet now includes three new compactors, bringing the active fleet to seven vehicles, plus motorbikes for street cleaning. New collection schedules were introduced, requiring waste placement by 9 a.m. on main avenues and night‑time collection on Avenida Manaure. Hernández urged merchants and residents to follow the new timings to keep the city cleaner.
